Decorator Or Designer Is there a difference? There is a big difference and choosing the right one for the job can save you lots of money. A decorator says, "Have you seen the new collection from Hickory Chair? It's divine. I see it in your front living room. But we're going to have to change the wall colors. Oh, and that chair that's already in there... well, I know your mother gave it to you, but let's put it in the garage. That gives us a fresh palette to start with and I just know you'll love the new textures from Waverly." An Interior Designer says, "Have you seen the new collection from Hickory Chair? It's divine. I see it in your front living room. Well... what will be your living room. I think we should move the kitchen to the back of the house and knock down the wall between that little closet and the living room. That will give us just enough room to relocate the stairs so they face the front door. Won't that be wonderful?" Now do you know a good architect or should I recommend one? If you don't want any walls moved, or stairs re-located get a decorator. They will save you a lot of money because they can expose you to a whole world of wonderful ideas, but do it in the space you have available. If you're ready for a new look, new spaces, a redesign of the home to make it more livable, then call an Interior Designer. He or she will know how to work with your home structure to make it fit your changing lifestyle. Get references. Anytime you change features or dimensions of your home, the cost of your project escalates exponentially. |
